    Scientific Background Our bodies convert food into energy: glucose. If glucose is burned as it is created, our stores of fatty tissue do not increase. But when food energy is consumed more quickly than it can be burned, it is converted into fat. Losing weight involves reversing the process: burning more energy than is consumed.
